Mighty Morphing Power Roots! Using Generative Vocabulary Instruction in the Disciplines
Layered on top of our everyday Anglo-Saxon English are words of Latin and Greek origin, words that are frequently used in the disciplines: math, science, social studies, and literature.  These words share roots and affixes with other similar words.  Their shared morphology allows students to use known word parts to decipher the meaning of previously unknown words.

In this session, participants will learn not only what roots and affixes might be appropriate to teach in their discipline, but also how to conduct generative vocabulary instruction to support students in their disciplinary literacy.

How to make good decisions about Digital Content
It is easy to get distracted by bright shiny objects.  Teachers and leaders often find themselves weighing the pros and cons of different digital content options and getting overwhelmed by the choices. Data-driven decision making is a foundation of personalized learning. From the grouping of students, to strategic assignment of content, to keeping track of each student’s personalized learning paths, data is essential for making decisions.

Integrating the C3 Framework into the Social Studies Classroom
We are going to look at how we can use the C3 Framework to entice our students to craft complex and incisive questions; think critically about primary and secondary historical sources; form and support their opinions with evidence; and communicate their conclusions in ways that will prepare them to be engaged citizens of the world. Looking at the Inquiry Design Model we will see how we can deconstruct an inquiry focusing on the questions, tasks, and sources that provide robust learning opportunities for our students of today.
