Diagramming Sentences- Not Just for Nuns Anymore

Grammar can be super fun! Somehow, that possibility has drifted away from mainstream English education. Heck, the concept of "good grammar" has drifted away from mainstream English education! I blame hippies.

Many English teachers today lack a strong foundation in grammar and are unsure how to help their students learn to write formally correct sentences. Other teachers see grammar as a sure way to stifle creativity. The result is that we have students flailing around in words and punctuation marks, unsure of how they all go together, or even what a sentence is.

Let me try to show you why grammar is important and how grammar can be fun. Sentence diagramming is a powerful tool to be able to explain where to put a period or a comma. Even better, it's a tool to learn how to write complex, interesting, and artistic sentences.
